What is the Pomodoro technique?

The Pomodoro technique is a time management process developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 80’s.

It is based on the idea of working in short sprints, taking short breaks between them to recharge, and longer break at the end of each work session.

The method was named after the productivity aid used to assist with focusing on work during periods of intense concentration.

A Pomodoro is an interval of time measured in multiples of 5 minutes, tasks are typically performed for 25 minutes on average with 5 minute breaks in between.

After four or five pomodoros (or “pomodori” as they are known in Italian), the longer break is taken. However, you can vary the length of work sessions and the frequency of breaks if needed.

How does the Pomodoro technique work?

What should I do during a pomodoro break?
